BOATS & CARPENTRY
Our wooden fleet and workshops
The Buenos Aires Rowing Club preserves and guards the most important fleet of wooden boats in the country. With more than 130, the Club maintains each of these cedar boats as if they were unique. It considers them emblematic objects, part of its identity.
In the Social Headquarters are the sheds where the boats are kept, in a building that dates from 1930 and that is totally conditioned to accommodate them. It has its own carpentry, blacksmith and painting workshops for the construction and repair of boats. Members enjoy rowing in a classic wooden boat thanks to the silent -and constant- work of the experienced staff.
Boat carpentry is an artisan task done entirely by hand and that requires time, patience and a special wisdom. It is a craft that is almost in extinction, learned through the transmission of knowledge from generation to generation.
The cycle is complemented with the work done in the painting and blacksmith workshop. There they are in charge of giving the necessary coats of varnish to the boats and the oars, as well as the fitting of ironwork and hardware.
A craft that is almost extinct, which is learnt by passing on knowledge through generations
